Product Description
Whiskey 6 is a historically accurate novel that takes place during World War I and extends through the Prohibition era. After a political battle with the French to keep the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) under Gen. Pershing's control, a naval officer is cashiered. After the war the former officer teams up with a bootlegger, William (Big Bill) Dwyer, and turns to rum running. With Dwyer's political connections he is able to gain the protection of Tammany Hall as well as members of the New York City Police Dept.
While the navy captain's subchaser was under French command, he disobeyed a direct order and rescued a German pilot that was shot down over the English Channel. The French used the incident as an argument for the AEF to be placed under French command. To pacify the French, the American ambassador was forced to hang the captain out to dry.
The German pilot was sent to a POW camp in Canada. After a carefully planned escape, due to a series of mishaps, the pilot found himself in Bangor, Maine instead of Montreal. The only way to leave Bangor was by horse or by a train that stopped at Bangor once a week.
After an army recruiting truck arrived in Bangor, the German pilot mistakenly joined the army and was sent to France. In France the German pilot, now a private in the U.S. Army, was sent to aircraft engine school then assigned to the 94th Aero Pursuit Squadron. And the plot continues...
